The Organizing Committee of the 9th International Symposium on Cold Regions Development (ISCORD) and the International Association for Cold Region Development Studies (IACORDS) invite to participate in the 9th International Symposium on Cold Regions Development to be held on June 1-5, 2010 in Yakutsk - Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
At the symposium a wide range of issues will be discussed with the focus on technologies that allow developing and living in cold regions with an appreciation of conservation and preservation of natural ecosystems.
The themes of the various sessions that will comprise the symposium will include:
1. The engineering, construction and maintenance of structures with a significantly long design life in cold climate regions and in cryolithozone:
- Building construction and design;
- Urban infrastructure and architecture;
- Service life;
- Water supply;
- Wastes and sewage utilization;
- Energy use efficiency.
2. The application of nanotechnologies and nanomaterials to provide with reliable materials and prolonged life of technical objects and mechanisms under conditions of cold climate:
- Design and innovation of new materials and technologies;
- Development strategy, potential and prospects;
- Up-to-date materials and equipment;
- Application of nanotechnologies.
3. Natural ecosystem conditions in zones impacted by construction, resource development and human habitation and designs for damage minimization:

- Natural ecosystems rehabilitation.
4. Building and long term use of transportation infrastructure under conditions of cold climate:

The Symposium will be convened with the assistance and cooperation of the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and their Technical Council on Cold Regions Engineering (TCCRE), Finnish Society of Civil Engineers (RIL), British Antarctic Survey (BAS), Japanese Society of Civil Engineers (JSC), Hokkaido Development Engineering Centre (HDEC), and Hokkaido University.
The Symposium Content will be published in the form of proceedings. The official languages of the Simposium are English and Russian.
